Fluoroscopy Guided Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Fluoroscopy Guided Manual Lymphatic Drainage Treatment Clinic in Surrey

Fluoroscopy Guided Manual Lymphatic Drainage (FG-MLD) is a specialised technique used to manage lymphoedema, which is swelling caused by a build-up of lymph fluid. This method combines traditional manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) with advanced imaging technology to enhance its effectiveness.

Fluoroscopy Guided Manual Lymphatic Drainage is available at our clinic based on the Surrey Hampshire Border GU26. Please call to enquire.

How It Works

FG-MLD uses a technique called lymphofluoroscopy to map the lymphatic system. This involves injecting a fluorescent dye, typically indocyanine green (ICG), under the skin. The dye binds to lymph fluid, allowing practitioners to visualize the flow of lymph through the superficial lymphatic vessels using a special camera.

Benefits

  • Personalised Treatment: By mapping the lymphatic pathways, practitioners can tailor the MLD to each patient’s unique lymphatic drainage patterns, potentially improving outcomes.
  • Enhanced Effectiveness: The visualization helps identify functional and non-functional lymphatic pathways, allowing for more precise and effective drainage techniques.
  • Comfortable Procedure: The massage techniques used in FG-MLD are firm but comfortable, slow, and rhythmic, designed to encourage lymph fluid movement without causing major discomfort.

Procedure

During FG-MLD, you typically lie down (or sit up if the lymphoedema is in the head and neck). The practitioner uses specific hand movements to guide the lymph fluid through the mapped pathways. The number of sessions required depends on the severity and type of swelling.

This innovative approach is gaining traction among lymphoedema specialists.
